Trump lawyer: Trump paid former porn star Stormy Daniels

A member of Donald Trump's legal team has contradicted the president about hush money paid to a former porn star.

In a televised interview, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Trump knew about the payment.

Syrian rebels surrender enclave in northern Homs

Syrian rebels have surrendered an enclave of the northern Homs countryside.

They have been given the option of pledging their allegiance to the government or relocating to rebel-held territory in northern Syria.

In recent weeks, the pro-Syrian government alliance has been focused on recapturing besieged areas close to its strongholds.

Pashinyan calls off mass protests as path to candidacy clears

Armenia's ruling Republican Party has confirmed it will support opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan's candidacy for prime minister.   

The party chairman said in parliament on Thursday that an agreement had been reached.

The announcement comes just hours after Pashinyan suspended nationwide protests ahead of next Tuesday's all-important vote.

Anger over Argentina's plans to curb waste

The Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires, is trying to find new ways to deal with its mounting rubbish problems.

It is estimated that 6,000 tonnes of waste is generated every day, so the government wants to change the law to make it easier to manage.

But not everyone is happy, because the plan could impact people whose lives depend on collecting recyclable materials.

Ancient artefacts have been handed back to Iraq, after they were falsely labelled and smuggled into the United States.

The US arts-and-crafts retail chain Hobby Lobby bought nearly 4,000 pieces.

It is believed they were destined for a Christian museum, which is closely linked to the Hobby Lobby retail chain.

ETA: Basque separatist group disbands after decades of conflict

The Basque separatist group, ETA, has announced that it has disbanded - just days after apologising to its victims.

More than 800 people were killed during its 50-year campaign for an independent state.

It declared a ceasefire in 2011.

Russia inquiry: Ty Cobb leaves Trump's legal team

US President Donald Trump's legal team is facing another shake-up, the main lawyer representing him in the Russia inquiry is retiring.

Ty Cobb's departure comes as speculation mounts about whether Trump will talk to investigators.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has reportedly threatened to subpoena the president if he fails to cooperate.

Cobb's replacement, Emmet Flood, is known for being more adversarial.

Flood represented US President Bill Clinton during his impeachment proceedings.

US releases Saudi Guantanamo prisoner Ahmed al-Darbi

The United States has released its first prisoner from the Guantanamo Bay detention centre under President Donald Trump.

The US military says Ahmed al-Darbi's transfer to Saudi Arabia is part of a 2014 plea deal to serve out the remainder of his sentence there.

Military spending worldwide is on the rise after going relatively unchanged for the last five years, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

But Russia's bucking the trend with spending falling for the first time in almost ten years.

Long-time rival the United States continues to be the world's biggest spender - and is expected to fork out even more this year.
