Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has raised questions regarding an incident at Delhi's Jantar Mantar where a police officer allegedly mistreated a female journalist.
He also criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah and questioned the conduct of police officers.
Late Saturday night, Rahul Gandhi wrote on X, "A female journalist has accused a police officer of misconduct at Jantar Mantar. For hours, hundreds of journalists have been sitting there with the sole demand that an FIR be registered. Isn't that a basic duty of the police? Even that was not done."
He stated, "Hundreds of people were detained at Jantar Mantar today. There are allegations of mistreatment of female protesters. Cameras were snatched, journalists were dragged away, and this is not the first time. We have previously seen video evidence of police officers engaging in appalling misconduct towards women."
Questioning the situation, Rahul Gandhi remarked that the very police force entrusted with the responsibility of protecting women is the one raising its hand against them.
During a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, a female journalist alleged misconduct by a police officer. Following this, several journalists staged a sit-in protest outside the Sansad Marg police station, demanding the registration of an FIR.
