According to news agency PTI, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has rejected the appeal of Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat against her disqualification from the Paris Olympics.
According to news agency PTI, Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha has said that she is very disappointed with this decision.
At the same time, legal news website Live Law says that Vinesh Phogat had demanded disqualification and joint award of silver medal, the appeal of which was rejected by a single arbitrator (one judge).
CAS had earlier postponed this decision till August 16, 2024. But in the meantime, on August 14, 2024, the verdict was given against Vinesh Phogat.
Earlier on 9 August 2024, the Arbitration Court had heard the matter. During this, Vinesh Phogat was also present virtually. At the same time, the matter was also heard on 13 August 2024.
Vinesh Phogat made it to the finals on 6 August 2024 by performing brilliantly in three consecutive matches in the 50 kg weight category. She became the first Indian woman to do so.
With this, at least a silver medal in wrestling was confirmed.
However, just a few hours later, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being 100 grams heavier than the approved weight.
Vinesh Phogat did not comment on this entire incident, but on the morning of 8 August 2024, she announced her retirement from wrestling by posting on the social media website X.
