India Open Super Series: Sindhu defeats Saina, reached semi-finals
Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu entered the semi-finals of the India Open Super Series badminton tournament by defeating compatriot Saina Nehwal in straight games against veterans.
Sindhu beat her senior 21-16, 22-20. Now she will play second-seeded Korea's Sung Zi Hyun in the semi-finals. London Olympics bronze medalist Saina and Sindhu had previously played just one international match against each other and Saina won the match directly in the game in the 2014 Syed Modi tournament.
In the beginning of this year, they faced in the Premier Badminton League, in which Sindhu won. In the Indian Badminton League 2013, Saina defeated Sindhu. Earlier, second seeded Sung Zi Hyun of Korea defeated defending champion Ratnakhon Intanon 21-16, 22-20. Meanwhile, fourth seeded Japan's Akane Yamaguchi beat former all-England champion Nozomi Okuhara 21-13, 11-21, 21-18.
Two-time runners-up in the men's singles, Viktor Axelson of Denmark made it to the semi-finals by defeating Xu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei 19-21, 21-14, 21-16.
