The Congress and the Left parties held the BJP-RSS for the murder on Wednesday and said that "the voices of disagreement are being crushed", during the all-round condemnation of journalist and social worker Gauri Lankesh.
The saffron party dismissed these allegations and said that neither the Bharatiya Janata Party nor its government and any other organization related to it are behind this murder. Opponents of BJP are using this opportunity to attack him.
They say that there is a similarity in the killing of Lankesh and before the rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and M.M. Kaluburgi. It is an attempt to suppress the tone of opposition.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi said that knowing about the murder was a shock. She said, "It should not be tolerated."
In a statement issued by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Sonia Gandhi said, "Gauri Lankesh, known for her fearless and independent views, showed exceptional patience and determination in protest against this system."
"The series of killings of rationalists, independent thinkers and journalists of the country has created an atmosphere in which ideological differences can put our lives in danger. It should not happen and it should not be tolerated."
Sonia Gandhi said, "This is a very sad moment for our democracy and intolerance and hardships are increasing in our society."
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, stepping forward, accused the BJP of pressurizing the voice of discontent. He said that this was part of their ideology.
Rahul Gandhi said, "Whoever speaks against BJP is silenced. People are saying that the Prime Minister is silent and he has not said anything. The main point of their whole ideology is that suppress the voices of protest."
Rahul said, "The history of this country is of non-violence ... justification of murder can not be proved right."
The Congress said, "It is the slogan" New India "under the Modi Government to suppress the voice of ordinary citizens and silence the voice of protest.
Condemning the murder, the Marxist Communist Party called for democratic forces to protest a strong protest against 'increase in intolerance and hatred' in the country.
The Marxist Communist Party has said in a statement that the killing of Lankesh is being matched by the familiar method of silence the voices that dare to speak against RSS and BJP's current environment of hatred and intolerance.
It has been said in the statement that the killing of Pansare, Dabholkar, Kalaburgi and Gauri Lankesh are all interlinked. The statement said, "They were all vocal against the superstition, intolerance and communal agenda of right-wing Hindutva."
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern over the murder of Lankesh and demanded justice. Banerjee tweeted, "I am very sad due to the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bangalore. It is very unfortunate, we want justice."
